China has traditionally been difficult when it comes to adopting international technology standards, especially in the wireless arena. Nowadays it seems that the country is pondering whether to adhere to established RFID standards or go its own way. Of course, their decision will have major implications for many large corporations around the world. China says they intend to go their own way in RFID because it is their belief they will influence global standards but insist it will be interoperable. You can bet that Wal-Mart, among others, will be watching very closely.
